Introduction.

No matter who you are or how much money you earn, or even have saved in the bank – just about anyone these days can end up with a bad credit rating. Yes, it’s a fact that the idea that it’s only people who are massively in debt and regularly miss repayment dates that end up with bad credit scores – is these days a complete myth. So how confused by bad credit might someone be who outwardly seems wealthy enough to avoid a bad credit history but ends up being refused a new loan application?

How anyone can end up with bad credit.

Can’t understand why you got a bad credit report?

Can’t understand why you got a bad credit report?

Remembering here that we’re talking about people who would appear to be capable of not falling into debt or arrears with a loan repayment, do you realize that under the current national financial situation credit companies and banks will come down heavily on you for missing even just one repayment date? Well, if you didn’t – you do know, but how can that situation arise in the first place that someone with an income sufficient to repay their debts fails to do so regularly. The first answer to that that is that for some people it can be as simple as just forgetting to send off a debt re-payment. For others, if they have multiple loans that require paying at different times of the month, they might simply get confused as to which loan needs repaying when and which ones have been repaid. Finally, there’s a third group of people who, trying to squeeze the last bit of interest out of their account before sending off a repayment, simply miss sending out their  repayment in time. Add to these the people who forget there’s a national holiday and the banks will be shut, or the finance company’s offices close early one day a week or there’s a delivery strike etc – and it’s quite easy to see how a repayment date can be missed, but not die to a lack of funds. The problem though is that whatever the reason – the credit companies won’t care, they’ll just hit your credit score lumbering you with a bad credit report.

How to start repairing a bad credit report.

You can repair your auto - so too can you repair your credit.

You can repair your auto - so too can you repair your credit.

If you have recently been refused a new personal loan, credit card or mortgage then you need to find out exactly what your credit score is by requesting a copy of your bad credit report. You are entitled to see a copy of any bad credit report about you in the USA under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Even better, you are entitled to a free credit report once a year from any of the organizations that compile consumer credit reports like Experian and Equifax. Having got a copy of your credit report the first thing to do is to check it thoroughly for errors. For all you know a credit company might have failed to record a payment that you did make, erroneously generating a bad credit report for you. Some people even find loans on their credit report that don’t belong to them. Whilst sometimes these can be due to identity theft and be quite difficult to resolve, they can also be due to an administrative error by a loans/credit company. So, you can see how just by checking your bad credit report you could potentially quite easily repair your bad credit.

Moved home recently?

If you’ve moved home - get yourself back on the electoral register.

If you’ve moved home - get yourself back on the electoral register.

You won’t be surprised to hear these days that they (local and federal government) like to keep a check on where we are. If you’ve moved home recently and are not on the electoral register – get yourself on it now. Why? Well, one of the ways that credit agencies check to satisfy themselves that you’re who you say you are is by comparing your details to the electoral register. If you’re not on it they might think you’re a bad risk credit wise and lower your credit score. Immediately after registering on the electoral roll, get in touch with your bad credit report provider and ask them to re-evaluate you.

Get a new loan or credit card.

A third way to start repairing a bad credit report you’ve inadvertently triggered is to take out a new loan or credit card, might seem crazy but it works. However, there always has to be a ‘however’! It will only work if you never fail to make a repayment. Regardless of why you’ve got bad credit needing that needs repairing by taking out a new loan, be it a general personal loan, an auto loan or a student loan; or even just taking out a new credit card and spending on it wisely – as soon as you can show the credit agencies that you can be trusted to make your repayments on time, it will help to start repairing your bad credit.
